The same synthesized phrase before and after 6-bit crushing, ×6 sample holding and 80% effect mix.

Two ways to make 8-bit music.

Compose a new chiptune loop

Build a small soundtrack from melody, bass, arpeggios and chip drums. Scene presets set a useful starting tempo and mood; you control the key, scale, length and voices.

Give an existing recording a retro texture

Bit crushing reduces amplitude resolution; sample-rate crunch holds each sample for longer. Blend the effect with the original for a subtle edge, or push it for deliberate distortion.

How to make 8-bit music

01

Choose a starting point

Generate a new loop, or import audio you have permission to process.

02

Adjust the music controls or retro effect. Preview, compare and try another variation.

03

Download your WAV

Save the result for your editor, game project or music session.

What is 8-bit music?

Chiptune takes inspiration from the sound chips of early game consoles and computers: pulse-wave melodies, triangle-like bass and noise percussion. A musical arrangement in that style is different from adding a bitcrusher to a full recording. This page lets you explore both.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make 8-bit music?

Pick a scene, choose a tempo and key, then generate. Change the voices or create a new variation before downloading.

Can I convert an existing song?

Yes. Open Convert Audio, choose your file, adjust the effect and convert. Switch between Original and 8-Bit to compare. Conversion changes the texture of your recording, not its notes or arrangement.

Does this use AI?

The generator uses musical rules, seeded variation and chip-style synthesizers. The converter uses bit-depth reduction and sample holding. Both run in your browser without an AI service.

Which formats and lengths are supported?

Try MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG or FLAC. Decoding depends on your browser. Import up to 30 MB and 2 minutes. Downloads are 16-bit PCM WAV at 22.05 kHz; the retro effect is part of the sound, not a claim about the WAV container.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. Audio decoding, generation, effects and WAV export happen on your device. This tool needs no account or camera.

Is it free, and can I use it in a project?

This browser tool is free to use. Generated loops use synthesized sounds, with no bundled third-party song recordings. Check the requirements of your project or distribution platform. Processing an uploaded song does not grant rights to that song.
