How to play the webcam theremin

  1. Select Enable Camera and allow camera access.
  2. Keep both hands visible in a well-lit camera view. Wait for hand tracking to become ready.
  3. Move your right hand up and down to change pitch, and your left hand to change volume.
  4. Make small, slow movements to hold a note, then slide between notes.

A virtual theremin in your browser

This mode produces continuous pitch rather than fixed chords. It uses a webcam and hand tracking instead of the antennas of a physical theremin. No instrument download is required.

For fixed harmonies, try Gesture Chords.

Online theremin help

Why is there no sound?

Check your device volume, keep both hands visible and raise your left hand to increase volume. If tracking is not ready, improve the lighting and try the camera again.

Can I play without a webcam?

Theremin hand control needs a webcam. Keyboard Mode plays chords without camera access.

What browser and device do I need?

Use a browser that supports camera access and Web Audio. A larger screen makes it easier to keep both hands in view. See camera and browser help if permission or tracking fails.

Can I save a performance?

Use REC, then STOP and Download. See the WebM recording guide for what is captured.
